Gymnastics: Inflexible optimism
Heading into the Ivy Classic, on Sun., Feb. 28, Yale's
women's gymnastics team was optimistic. After a competitive performance against
Brown the previous weekend, the team felt prepared for the competition.
However, their results fell short of expectations. "Overall it was a really
disappointing weekend," Betty Ky, TC '00, said. "We really expected to be in
close competition with everyone."
The Elis placed third out of four teams, and are still wondering what went
wrong. "We don't really know what happened," Ky said. "We had a far from
perfect meet both individually and team-wise."
Although the weekend was disappointing, several competitions and rematches
remain for the Bulldogs. The ECAC tournament is close on the horizon, and there
the Elis will have the chance at rematches against most of the other Ivy
squads.
While all gymnasts are known for their physical flexibility, one thing is
certain about the attitudes of the gymnasts on this team: they're not
wavering. With a tough weekend at the Ivy Classics behind them, the women's
gymnastics team is firmly rooted in its dedication to future success. "Most
important is our positive mental attitude," Ky said. "Everyone's really been
fighting and giving their all."
