Losing their stripes
Princeton men's basketball
The Tigers saw their season end in the quarterfinals of the National Invitational Tournament, losing to Xavier, 65-58, on Wed., Mar. 17. Princeton held a commanding 35-23 halftime lead before relinquishing it late in the second half. Ivy Rookie of the Year Chris Young '02 led the Tigers with 21 points. Brian Earl '99 managed just 10 points on 2 for 11 shooting (including 2 for 9 from three-point range) two weeks after being named Ivy Player of the Year. Cool as ice
Harvard women's hockey
Harvard won its first-ever ECAC tournament title with a wild 5-4 overtime win over No. 2 New Hampshire at Brown on Sun., Mar. 21. The victory was the Crimson's 28th straight and brought its record to 31-1. Harvard was leading 3-2 when the Wildcats scored with 4:54 left. They added another goal just 32 seconds later to take a 4-3 lead. But Crimson sophomore Tammy Shewchuk netted her second goal with 1:15 remaining in regulation to force overtime, and senior co-captain A.J. Mleczko scored the game-winner with 3:45 left in the extra period.

Stickin' it to 'em
Cornell women's lacrosse
The Big Red beat Columbia 14-6 on Sat., Mar. 20, in New York to run its record to 3-0 and register its first Ivy win. The Lions scored less than two minutes into the contest before Cornell scored eight unanswered goals for an 8-1 halftime lead. The youthful Cornell squad featured freshmen Ginny Miles, who had seven points (three goals and four assists), and Lori Wohlschlegel, who scored three goals. Jaimee Reynolds '02 earned Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week honors after forcing two turnovers, tallying six ground balls, and adding two second-half goals against Columbia.
