Editor's Note

As the spring season proceeds, the wheat begins to separate from the chaff. While Saybrook's second consecutive Tyng has become a certainty, the gap between No. 2 and No. 8 is small, and the next few weeks and a playoff-packed reading period could certainly mix things up quite a bit.

A few teams have shown dominance in the spring. Branford Ultimate has started out on fire. Led by the Jedi, Bareiss '99, Smith '99, Kataria '99, Zamost '01, Brodhead '01, and their army, they have destroyed their first three opponents by a score of 43-19 and look now to avenge last year's championship loss to Berkeley. Silliman-TD baseball looks no less dominant, with extraordinary pitching led by Tuzzolino '00 and Walland '99. If they can avoid forfeiting in the playoffs this year, they should be a force to reckon with. In filed hockey, Morse-Stiles and Silliman-TD look to fight it out on the fields in a rehash of last year's championship.

Fortunately, other races are more competitive. Calhoun, Berkeley, Stiles, Silliman, Saybrook, and Branford all field strong 4-on-4 volleyball teams. In coed softball, Pierson captain Chris Burke '99 looks to take back the shirts from the Saybrugians, who've allowed an astonishing average of only two runs a game. Captain Danny Sims '99 leads a solid Silliman team, and Berkeley, led by the wily pitching and hitting of Tom Falco '99, remains a force. In billiards, Morse captain Dave Ross '99 hopes to avenge a championship and semifinal loss last year. Since no team remains undefeated in coed soccer, that sport should also provide an interesting race. But if Calhoun can actually start scoring goals, the 'Houn is a prime contender.
