Around the Ivies

Balls: Harvard men's tennis

Top-seeded James Blake '01 made it to the finals of the NCAA Division I men's tennis championships before falling to the second seed, Florida sophomore Jeff Morrison. The three-set loss thwarted Blake's bid to become the first Ivy League tennis player since 1923 to win the tennis national championship. He was named to the USA Tennis Collegiate Team.

Strokes: Cornell men's swimming

John Kenny '02 earned a bronze medal in the 25K Open Water competition at the Pan/Pacific Championship on Sun., Aug. 22, in Sydney, Australia. Kenny was the top American finisher, helping the U.S. win the team points title as well as the overall medal count with 35 medals.

Cox: Brown women's crew

The women's varsity eight took home the gold in the grande final of the NCAA Women's Rowing Championships in Rancho Cardova, Cal. The unexpected win pushed the Bears over the edge, netting the team championship for the first time ever. The team championship was the first in any sport in school history. The University of Virginia rowers went home disappointed after holding a three-point lead entering the final race.

Sticks: Princeton field hockey and men's lacrosse

Princeton's field hockey and men's lacrosse teams gave their seniors a goodbye gift--a perfect Ivy career record. The seniors on each team played four years without losing a single Ivy League game.
