Saybrook

The season is young, but with a strong outing from the golf team, Saybrook is in good position to start this fall. The foursome of "Iron" Mike Buchwald '00 and Kevin Park '00, superfrosh Meredith "John" Whipple and Dave "Yes, I did just birdie the hardest hole on the Yale course" Mount, who shot a combined two under par, will get Saybrook off to a great start this year.

Led by Jon "Town Crier" Criss '01 and "Scary" Rob Stockman '02, the men's cross country team is poised to defend last year's crown. Meanwhile, a rather inexperienced yet enthusiastic team of women harriers is psyched to try to follow the example of their male teammates.

The men's soccer team returns almost its entire starting lineup from last year. Second-year captains Dylan "Centri" Fuge '01 and Jon Ells '01 will lead "Ells' Angels" into battle once again. With a few additions from the freshman class, the team is certain to be fierce on the fields. Azure "World Turns" Wells '01 and Katie "Mia" McGuinn '01 head a young but talented crew for women's soccer. Here's hopin' that Trumbull did some recruiting in the off-season!

Like many other Saybrook teams, lawn volleyball graduated integral members of the team last year. In the absence of '99ers Whipple, Sung, and Delmont, participation from the Class of '03 will be crucial. However, with Teri "The Wall" Hickey '00 at the helm, along with stalwarts Natasha "The Franchise" Bloom '00, Dan "Ahh" Chu '02, and Fingermunch, the group looks forward to proving once again that they are a team to be reckoned with.

Saybrook table tennis—'nuff said. We invite you all to come play for second place. Over on the hard courts, captain Dave "Silver" Plattner '00 will spearhead coed tennis in hopes of a resurgence. With a good mix of newcomers and returners, the outlook is promising.

After losing its core to graduation and study abroad, the football program fell from its traditional dominance in '99. The Soldiers of Saye and Sele will reclaim their rightful place atop the gridiron rankings this year. An extraordinarily athletic crop of frosh and several key players who developed well last year will follow the seasoned veterans to razzle-dazzle glory. Beware Wildebeest, for ye shall be tamed!
