Smack Zone

Lichtig

Over the weekend, I got Mao tattooed on my arm and now I'm truly ready to fight. The only team that came through for me last week was Penn State, so I'll take them again, this time by 35 against Pitt ($2,000). I'll also bet that Central Pennsylvania is a lot nicer than Connecticut or North Jersey ($1). I'll say that field hockey rocks New Hampshire ($2,000). And in the shocker of the century, Georgia Tech will take out the 'Noles in Tallahassee ($1,000). Bobby Bowden will be crying on the sidelines, and Moran and Randell will be crying at the home office. Well, at least Randell will be. Moron knows so little about football that she won't care anyway. Last Week: -$400. Current Balance: $4,600.

Moran

Randell, you're fired. No one should get the title of Smack Queen by making cushy bets on the Cubs. Sorry your bank account got smaller, Lichtig, but size doesn't matter anyway, as you've said many times before. My wallet will get even fatter this week if Keyshawn and the Jets can take New England on Sunday ($1,000). Boston will give the Yankees some trouble this weekend, but New York will prevail, two games to one ($500). In women's tennis, Lindsay Davenport will silence Serena Williams ($750), but she'll have to contend with her big sis in the finals ($200). Last Week: +$1,600. Current Balance: $6,600.

Randell

It's good that the sports girls know how to make money. If we had to depend on Tig, we'd be broke and on the street. It takes a lot of skill to bet on other peoples' Smacks, Moron, especially when you read them first. Watch Sammy finish the Cubs' series at Houston with more home runs than the Cubs have wins this season ($1,500). Brian Griese will hand off a touchdown to Terrell Davis ($200) against Miami on Monday night, even though the Dolphins will win the game ($500). Griese's alma mater, Michigan, will roll over Rice ($800). And Tig will lose money for the second week in a row ($50). Last Week: +$1,750. Current Balance: $6,750.

Well, after breaking all previous Smack dominance records way back in fall '98, they've finally asked me back for more. My glorious return to page 22 might well be titled, "I hate the Mets a whole hell of a lot." I couldn't be more tired of hearing Vinny from Queens and all his kind talk about the Subway Series. Make it to the playoffs, first, boys. Take it from me—the "Amazin's" will lose five out of six on their West Coast swing ($500 each). And you know what? The best infield ever will make at least three errors this week ($300)—that's three fewer than the Yanks will make ($300), and while they're at it, the Bombers will take all three against the BoSox ($100 each) and wrap up the East race. Opening balance: $5,000.
