Around the Ivies

Record breaker: Brown Football

Two-time first team All-Ivy quarterback James Perry '00, poised to become the top passer in Ivy League history this season, is one of 10 preseason finalists for the coveted Walter Payton Award, presented to the top player in NCAA I-AA by the Sports Network. The Bears senior has already been named the top offensive player in the Ivy League by The Sporting News and Street & Smith's College Football Preview magazines.

Ceiling breaker: Penn swimming/diving

Kathy Lawlor-Gilbert, head coach of the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's swimming and diving programs and the first woman to hold both coaching duties at a Division I university, has decided to retire from coaching. "It is most appropriate to conclude my coaching career at the University of Pennsylvania because it has been such a rewarding experience, "Lawlor-Gilbert said upon announcing her decision.
