Ezra Stiles

The controversy began last week, when it was revealed that IM secretaries for Stiles college, located in Ward 22, had recruited freshmen, who reside in Ward One-based Lawrance Hall, to play on their IM teams. Branford tried to protest its defeats in men's and coed football(both 2-0), men's soccer (2-0), ping-pong (3-0) and volleyball (2-1), to no avail. It was ruled that even though Stiles freshmen live in Ward One, their intramural lives revolve around the residential college, making them eligible to play.

Berkeley caught a glimmer of hope when its intrepid intramural secretaries uncovered another scandal. The person responsible for reporting on Stiles IMs—that's right, the editor-in-chief of this very IM report!—was roommates with some of the more proficient ping-pong players. But Berkeley had no case.

Stiles IM secretaries remain confident in their movement. "It's a grass-roots organization," one secretary said. "We're going to bury the other teams into the ground so they can see the grass roots." Stiles has shown its superiority in the primaries, but the real test will come late in the season when we face off with Saybrook, Silliman, and Morse. Unfortunately, these colleges have as much chance of winning as a Republican in New Haven. Stiles will continue to rise in the polls unless, of course, the intramural rulemakers implement the two-point conversion. Then who knows what could happen.
