Jonathan Edwards

Ouch. JE has certainly taken quite a beating this fall. Other colleges, fearful of our huge misshapenness, have tried their damnedest to take us out of the game at every possible opportunity. During this season alone, JE IMers have suffered all of the following: a broken nose, a badly sprained wrist, a broken hand, and several broken fingernails. Despite our many injuries, we have still managed to hold it together just long enough to start turning around our piss-poor performance in time for the start of the winter season.

During the last few weeks, men's soccer picked up speed like my dad's 4x4 when he sees a 'possum in the road. It all began during a game against Saybrook—the first game that JE didn't lose by more than four goals. Then came two glorious ties. I'd like to think, however, that I know the team well enough to safely claim that they defeated Pierson this Wednesday by a score of... hmmm...8-0—and then returned Friday afternoon to soundly thrash Davenport by, oh, I don't know, 153-1 (D-port's one point coming from a backwards pass which caramboled past our goalie who was making eyes at the women's club team). Thanks to the core team: Greg '00, Gabe, Carl & Pietro '01, Brenden '02, John '03, Gabriel GRD, and especially Austen '03 and Miki '00.

Men's football made the most of their week, utilizing some key ex-high school football talent (i.e. John "John" Schochet '01) to fuel a late-season surge. Tasting first blood against Silliman last week (winning by a lot), they skipped and hopped past Branford (lost by a lot) in anticipation of this week's festivities. They annihilated Pierson in a devastating match (won by forfeit). Still not satisfied, they didn't sleep for two days in anticipation of facing D-port, whom they pulverized (winning by forfeit).

Our valiant ping-pongers pinged and ponged with all their might against Pierson on Monday, and while our pinging was unstoppable, our ponging was not quite as stellar, and we ended up losing the close meet. On Thursday we then went on to defeat Davenport (in a match that still won't be played for another 24 hours as I write this). Regardless of the true outcome, though, the entire team deserves praise for their solid play and upbeat attitude throughout the season. Thanks to Zoë and Andrew `01, Carolyn, Yvonne, and Sindy, and Greg '00, Neheet '03, and Andy '02. Special thanks to captains Giu-lia '00 and Darin '01 for being such wonderful human beings.
