Smack Zone

Lichtig

My totals have grown so fast that the IOC is investigating me for steroid use. Ever since I've decided to bet on college football exclusively, I've gone 8-1 and called two major upsets. This week, look for PSU to defeat Purdue at Ross-Ade ($2,000) and Wisconsin to upset MSU ($1,000) in other Big 10 action. In another upset, Alabama will shock defending champion Tennessee ($1,000). The Bowden kid will also keep it close (10 pts.) with his dad ($500). Last Week: +$4,500. Current Balance: $9,051.

Moran

As Yogi Berra once said, "You can observe a lot by just watching." The other sports "editors" better watch what I do this week if they want to stay alive in the Smack standings. Aaron "I made too many wrong mistakes" Lichtig has no hope of ever catching up to me, but Laurie "In baseball, you don't know nothin'" Randell might pose a challenge if she got a clue and realized you can't be a Braves fan and a Mets fan. Speaking of baseball, I'll take the Yanks over the Braves in six ($500), while in NHL action, the Devils will fall to the Stars ($1,000) but redeem themselves against the Blues ($400). On the homefront, Eli football and soccer will both silence Columbia ($2,000 each). Last week: +$4,102. Current Balance: $14,252.

Randell

Am I the only one in Sports who doesn't believe in betting insane amounts of money on meaningless Devils games (yes, you, Moron)? And Tig, won't you be cryin' when Penn State falls to Purdue ($500), especially after Michigan takes apart the Illini ($2,000). Michigan State finds Wisconsin a little too hot to handle, dropping one to the Badgers ($500). Columbia continues their losing ways against Yale football ($2,000). The Braves take the first game at Turner Field ($500). Since Moron is embarassing Sports by being the only editor who doesn't know anything about Pete Rose or Bart Giamatti, I'm going to have to pick up the slack and defend our honor. Last Week: +$2,300. Current Balance: $16,801.

Chris Burke, Special Guest

The return. Chen thinks he's old school; Burke knows he's old school. Real old. Law school old. So, with this theme in mind, we move onto Smack against sports editors that were probably born in the eighties. Hopefully, I won't be brought up on child abuse charges when I kick their candyasses. By the time you pick up next week's Herald, the World Series will be over: Yanks in five ($2,000). Over in the NFL, three upsets: Cowboys over the 'Skins, Bills over the Seahawks, and Bears over the Bucs ($750 each). In the NHL, the Devils take both halves of the home-and-home with the Blues ($1,000). Maybe Altschuler cares to bet five bucks on it? Adios. Last week: +$6,000. Curent Balance: +$4,050.

Chris Burke, PC '99, a former editor-in-chief of the Herald, won Pick the Pros this week. Try your luck at www.yaleherald.com/pickthepros.
