Davenport

They kicked, they screamed, they bit our legs, but eventually Davenporters came out to the IM fields. Last week brought a glorious end to the fall season. Ping-pong finished with four straight wins, riding on the backs of Captain Amar "I'll sacrifice my body for any sport" Drawid '00, Michael "My life is black" Kavanagh '00, and Sister Mary "Tyson" Flannigan '65. They're all so photogenic, too. Looking back, I'd have to say the season really wouldn't have been what it was if it weren't for the silly hats. Honestly, we didn't really have much talent. Amar thinks he's good, but most of our success comes from the attitude brought on by the silly hats. It's kind of like that show on Nickelodeon with the mannequin who was brought to life by a hat.

Tennis had its own miracle workers. The team was spurred by the amazing performances of novice players Sandra Liubicic '02 and Chrissy Kourniouti '02. They didn't know how to keep score and barely knew what a racquet was, but all this knowledge was irrelevant. Two checks in the win column for D-port.

Which brings me to football and soccer. Oh, what a Friday we had. The afternoon began with Henry-ball, er, football. Our game plan: give the ball to Henry "I run a 3.9-second 40" Whittaker '00 enough times to build up a big lead, then let everyone else play. Come soccer time, Henry's goalkeeping skills were unnecessary behind the defensive prowess of Matt "I'm not even trying" Schneider-Mayerson '03. Not to be overshadowed, David Auerbach '03 netted yet another pair of goals for a team-leading 11 on the season, a sign of things to come.

And so, the air is crisp, the cider flows, and Davenport IMers are already yearning for the winter season. With a little bit of luck, Wed.'s soccer game will have gone in our favor and Davenport can address the world with a spring in our step. At least we're ranked in single digits.

(Compiled by two weary members of the D-port curling team.)
