Morse

For a team that finished in sixth place last fall, a first-place showing is huge. Winter could be even bigger for Morse. B-hoops has produced two championships in two years and looks to repeat. The team should again benefit from the contributions of Warner Off '02 and Alex Stegall '02. It's rumored that former B-hooper Ryan Barrows '01 is graduating to A this year. A-hoops and "Choops" look to improve upon decent seasons last year. With the likes of Peter Sarantos '00, Mike Gordon '00, and Dirk Van Den Bos '01, A-hoops has some serious potential. Choops is rumored to have a few tricks up its sleeves—we'll see if the team can follow through on its promises.

Squash returns its entire men's and women's teams, both of which are extremely solid. The men, led by Colin Pan '01, Mike Hoevel '01, and Trygve Bakken '01, finished a strong second last year. Eranthie Weerapana '00, Deb Bauer '01, and Sara Perkins '01 make up a women's team to be reckoned with. Ice hockey has lost some key players from last year's championship team, but with Ian MacAllister '00, Blake Greene '02, and Dan Wilderman '00, to take the ice along with the promise of some Morse freshwomen, all is not lost.

Is there any sport Sara Perkins can't play, and play well? In addition to squash, look for her to dominate opponents in inner tube water polo and women's hoops, though she'll probably get bored out there and would be better off schooling the guys in A-hoops. Both water polo—with Jonathan Thessin '00 in goal—and women's hoops will be graced by the presence of Megan Strenski '02 and Alison Smith '02, who have goals in mind for the winter season.

And then there's swimming. Andrew Whealy '02 won all four events he was allowed to compete in last year. Not a bad night. But we need more women to win this team sport—the verdict is still out on this one. If winter works out as well as it did last year, Morse may rule the Tyng before spring even starts.
