Princeton men's basketball

Tiger basketball will have a very different look when it takes the floor this winter. First came word that star center Chris Young '02 had played his last NCAA game when he agreed to a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The two-sport standout was a third-round draft pick in the June draft before signing for $1.65 million on Wed., Aug. 30, a record for an Ivy League athlete.

In addition, Princeton will be without head coach Bill Carmody, who will replace Kevin O'Neill at Northwestern. A long-time assistant to Tiger legend Pete Carrill, Carmody led Princeton to two NCAA tournament berths in his four years as coach.

While the Tigers were quick to announce John Thompson III (son of former Georgetown coach John Thompson) as Carmody's successor, it is less clear how they will fare without Young. The rising junior was the team's leading scorer and was on pace to challenge Bill Bradley's all-time record.
