The Ivy League takes over the Olympics

The United States Olympic men's eight is dominated this year by Princeton and Brown. Three Brown Bears, Raj Shah '96, Porter Collins '98, and Dave Simon '02, are in the shell, along with Princeton alumni Chris Ahrens '98, and Tom Welsh '99. Garrett Miller, a 1999 University of Pennsylvania grad, rounds out the Ivy presence.

Thirty-three American Ivy Leaguers will join 14 others representing 11 countries in the Olympics. There are also 10 administrative and coaching assignments granted to Ivy Leaguers past and present.

Among the medal hopefuls is Dartmouth's Adam Nelson '97, who won the shot put at the Olympic Trials. Columbia grad Cristina Teuscher '00 is also looking to bring home a medal. Despite her youth, she was chosen as a tri-captain of the U.S. swim team. Harvard's Dora Gyorffy '01 is also in the hunt for a medal in the high jump.
