Timothy Dwight

I have never claimed to be a visionary. However, last night I had a dream so powerful, so honest, so clear that I knew immediately it came from something higher than myself. In the dream, I stood in a field of billowing wheat. The wind was beating at me, tearing at my blood-red shirt, but it made no sound. The world was perfectly quiet. Then, from nowhere and everywhere at the same time came a voice—a deep voice, calm, but iron-clad. It filled the perfect silence, saying, "The time of war is coming. There will be much suffering, but you have nothing to fear. Ashe is with you. It is in you. It is you." Suddenly before me rose a giant lion, and as it sprung toward me, I stood my ground without fear. The lion stopped in front of me and bent its head. In its mouth I saw a glittering golden cup with `Tyng' etched on it. The voice spoke again into the silence. "It is yours for the taking, if you will follow and fight. If you will run until your legs cry for mercy and battle with all of your soul, then it is yours. But you will not be alone." Lightning flared, criss-crossing the world and the air tingled as if everything were about to ignite. The lion stood before me, unafraid, expectant of what was coming. The voice addressed me again, its words ringing in the silent void surrounding me. "Go. Do battle. Destroy your enemies. The cup will be waiting for you. The lion will be with you. We will be with you. Ashe will be with you. Fight as mightily as you can, and there will be none to stop you." The lion sprang forward, and as one red wave, we legions of warriors poured ahead. No sound marked our footfalls, and no screams escaped our foes as we trampled them beneath our booted feet. In this utter silence, we red-clad heroes ruled the world. We breathed Ashe. We bled Ashe. We were Ashe.
