Around the Ivies

The quarterbacks, they are a changin'

Princeton football keeps looking for new answers

For the third time this year, a replacement quarterback led the Princeton Tigers downfield for a last minute score. On Sat., Oct. 28 against Cornell, fourth stringer Brian Danielewicz '01 replaced third-stringer Jon Blevins '01 on the team's final drive and completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Chisom Opara '01 with 11 seconds left. Danielewicz entered the game without having ever completed a collegiate pass, but still promptly connected on five of six passes for 78 yards.

But kicker Taylor Northrop '02 missed the extra point for the first time this season—his plant foot slipped on the slick turf—and the Tigers lost a 25-24 heartbreaker. The three relief quarterbacks were a combined 19 for 29, throwing for 296 yards on the day. Of the seven drives led by replacement quarterbacks, four resulted in scores.
