Brown goalie earns top women's hockey honor

Brown goaltender Ali Brewer '01 has been selected The 2000 Patty Kazmaier Award winner, college hockey's most prestigious award for women. The recipient is chosen by an 11-member committee and considers individual and team skills, performance in the clutch, personal character, and a love for hockey.

Brewer posted a 1.33 goals-against average this season, first in the league and third in the nation. She boasts a .943 save percentage, second-best in the country, and registered 630 saves against only 38 goals. Brewer was named the MVP of the ECAC Championship in 2000 after leading Brown to the tournament title by making 66 saves in two contests.

The award is named for Patty Kazmaier, a four-year All-Ivy honoree for the Princeton women's ice hockey team from 1981 to 86. Kazmaier died in 1990 from a rare blood disease.
