Weekend Excursion

If you missed it at the Yale Rep last year, here's another chance to see Harold Pinter's renowned dark comedy, Betrayal. This production stars Liev Schrieber (The Hurricane, A Walk on the Moon, Scream 1 and Scream 2) and Juliette Binoche (Alice and Martin, Lovers on the Bridge, The English Patient), bringing Hollywood movie stars back to the stage. The story is a classically British take on the timeless love triangle: Schrieber plays the role of Jerry, who is involved in an affair with his best friend's wife, Binoche. Relying on dialogue rather than action, Pinter's play is a conversational masterpiece that demonstrates the power of words to mask rather than reveal the truth. The plot begins at the end of the story and works backwards. Betrayal gradually reveals the daily deceits that accumulate and drive the drama's characters apart.

Betrayal is currently playing at the American Airlines Theatre, 227 W. 42nd St., in New York City, and will continue through Dec. 31. The show begins at 8 p.m. every Tuesday through Saturday, with additional 2 p.m. shows each Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. Exceptions to these times are this weekend, Fri., Dec. 1 and Sat., Dec. 2, when the play begins at 7 p.m. Tickets for the production are available for $40 and $65. For reservations, call (212) 719-9393.

So for all of you who felt like fall break flew by too quickly, take another mini-vacation before finals hit and treat yourself to an evening of fine theater in the Big Apple. —Holly Kline

To get to NYC, take Metro-North from New Haven to Grand Central. Take the shuttle from there to 42nd Street/Times Square, which puts you within walking distance of the theater.
