Around the Ivies

Barbara Kirch, Penn '84, and Demer Holleran, Princeton '89, both current coaches at the University of Pennsylvania, were honored at the 2000 United States Olympic Committee Coach of the Year awards banquet on Sat., Jan. 13.

Kirch was named the Rowing Developmental Coach of the Year. She coached the women's four to a gold medal at the 2000 Nation's Cup (under-23 world championships) in Denmark and was head coach of the U.S. women's junior national team from 1997-99. Kirch is now in her fourth season as the head coach of the women's rowing program at Penn.

Holleran was named the Squash National Coach of the Year. She is currently the head coach of the undefeated national champion Penn women's squash team. Over the course of her career, she has amassed a total of 16 singles championships and 11 doubles titles.
