Ezra Stiles

For those of you used to reading these reports, you know that we hardly mention IMs, instead using the space as a soapbox for espousing political ideologies and, usually, tasteless sexual humor. This week is no different. If you want IM info, check out the web site (www.yale.edu/intramurals). Too bad the Saybrugians who run it were too scared to face our men's volleyball team.

In last week's Herald, a columnist wrote a piece denouncing all student publications except the YDN and the Herald. He argued that people only read the two newspapers, and all other campus publications are merely transcript-padding. Here's the ironical part: most of you don't remember this column, because you did not read it. The self-indulgent author, who for anonymity's sake will be known here only as Herald senior editor David Wertime, MC '01, failed to realize that Herald readers loyally read three things: the front-page headline, the Index, and this page.

You don't care about one man's opinion of campus publications; you want to hear about the Stiles water polo team's 2-0 start, including the thrilling one-goal victory over Pierson and the total thrashing of a bitter Morse squad. You don't care what building graces the front page this week; you want to know about the basketball team's sweep of Trumbull.

Wertime requested letters to the editor: how about some requesting that the op-ed section be reduced to one page, and intramural sports be given six?

(Compiled by someone who thinks the Yale Herald is far from the best Herald

on campus.)
