Jonathan Edwards

The scene: Tues., Feb. 6, 9 p.m., the Lanman Center. The storyline: JE's continued winter resurgence.

It's second nature for women's volleyball teams to throw in the towel when they hear their next game is against JE. That happened again...sort of. Trumbull's team lost the first game because it had insufficient flesh and blood to offer to our six vampiresses. They managed to face us for the second game, and after playing with them like cats would with cornered mice, we put them out of their misery with a 15-13 win.

On the hoops side of things, A- and C- held their own. For C-, showing up meant victory, as the pathetic 'Bulls were already slaughtered by the IM forfeit gods. Our C-hoopsters are so enthusiastic that even the prospect of an unsexy intrasquad game brought out the masses. And in a match-up of first-place titans, A-hoops succumbed to Trumbull after staying neck-and-neck throughout the game. These ballers are still in the championship hunt, though.

But B-hoops provided the exclamation point to the proceedings. Tied at 33 with a minute and a half left, Trumbull scored on a three-point play. Undaunted, a quick-thinking Austen Moore '03 lofted a three. Money. After another exchange of threes, it's 39 all, overtime. No score until Trumbull makes a layup. JE turnover, another Trumbull layup. Down four, Javier Rivera '02 calmly banks a three. Money. Down one, JE fouls. Trumbull misses the front end of the one-and-one. JE rebound. Pass inside to Andy Graham '01, who banks a shot at the buzzer. Money. JE wins, 44-43. Thanks, Austen. Thanks, Javy. Thanks, Andy. Thanks, backboard. Curtain.

(Not compiled by Andy Graham '02.)
