Silliman

Wow. That's what we said when we found out our B-hoops team had somehow managed to capture the eighth seed (of eight) in the February Madness Basketball Tournament. With a violent 21-20 win over Calhoun in the last game of the season, Silliman was able to move into a five-way tie for last place in the B-hoops division at 3-8. Somehow, because of head-to-head statistics and point differentials, Silliman emerged as the best of the worst in the division. The top seed? Of course—TD. During the regular season, TD was an impressive 11-0 and a certain favorite to win the tournament. Perry "I'll have some" Bacon "on my cordon bleu" '02 was blocking shots left and right, while Alex Bribriesco '04 handled the ball spectacularly. Into the second half, we had managed to tie TD 25-25 (although admittedly they were a man down for the first 10 minutes). We remained close the whole game, but sadly fell 43-35 to the better squad. It was a great game, and we were just happy to be there. I'm proud of the guys who came out.

Anyway. Why we're going to make some moves in the spring. Look out for us in softball. We made the semis last year only to lose to Saybrook, and we're looking for revenge. We've got some great young talent, especially on the female side, to give us a legitimate shot at the shirts. Coed volleyball and coed soccer will be out for blood with the most spirited of the spirited in Silliman: Mike "the guy with the Sillimander suit" Mackenzie '03 and Jesse "Yeah, I keep water polo statistics, so?" Olsen '01. And watch out for Amit "The 125-lb. lean, mean machine" Sabharwal '03 and Kenny "You better believe Jeter" Canfield "better than Rodriguez" '03 with their new and improved ultimate skills.
