Calhoun

Today, I'd like to talk about one thing: extreme athletic ability. And right off the bat I can think of one person who exemplifies this: me. The physicists have a name for me, you know.

They saw me flying through the particle accelerator, faster than anything they had ever seen. I got to the end of it without even breaking a sweat. "What is that?" one of them asked. "Oh, that," Yale physicist Tilo Wettig replied without even blinking. "That's a 'Hounie. They're extreme."

In fact, Wettig is a Calhoun fellow. His extreme athletic ability will be on display all spring in volleyball, along with Elliott "I have an extreme jump serve" Henry '04 and the extremely talented women's squad from the past winter season.

What about Amanda Jenks '03 and Elana Den '03, who are playing ultimate frisbee after volleyball? That's extreme. Just like Karl "I know Fujitsu" Chang '03, who throws an extremely wicked forearm and knows some highly lethal and mystical martial arts moves. Extreme like Michael Espinoza '03, who lifted weights in the Calhoun weight room after his baseball game was cancelled due to the rain. "This time I'm going to hit a homerun to the other side of the street."

And our varsity athletes, Bryan "My volleyball serve is a bullet, like my slap shot" Freeman '03 and Michelle McGoey '03, have decided to show everyone that extreme athletic ability is not limited to one sport. "I was a three-sport athlete in high school," McGoey told me after she signed up to play ultimate, field hockey, and softball. "I can handle it." I could only say one thing in response to that. Extreme.
