Ezra Stiles

More than two years ago, the Stiles class of 2002 came to Yale. They had a bad reputation at first. Upperclassmen complained that the frosh never ate in Stiles. Intramural athletes wondered why few members came out to the fields. That all changed when they became sophomores.

Or so we thought. But on Tues., Mar. 20, the spring season began and no juniors, and few seniors or sophomores seemed to notice. Without the class of 2004, it would have been the worst day in Stiles IM history. After forfeiting softball because only two girls came out (I'm still wondering how only two out of more than 200 girls in Stiles play softball), it looked like Stiles might have to forfeit coed soccer as well.

But the Moose was saved by the frosh, who outnumbered the other classes combined. The three Stiles girls—Tara O'Donn-ell '04, Paige Harazin '04, and Sarah Scha-ffer '04—were the single reason that Stiles pulled off the shutout win over Silliman. Upperclassmen complained that they had "too much work to do." We'd believe it, if we hadn't seen you all at Naples the next night. Like the rest of the nation, Stiles seems to be suffering from an energy crisis. While we don't have Spencer Abraham to pull us out of it, we do have Spencer Fry. If he can find time—he's in high school, so he actually has to go to class—to play spring IMs, then you can too. There's still time to convince the Master and Dean that you deserve an award for college spirit at graduation. And couldn't you use a little engraved metal bowl next year?
