The dark side of Murawczyk; kicker reveals how to hit it between the posts.

Sometimes being a reporter isn't all that bad. My assignment this week: to expose the deep dark secrets behind the golden-boy image of Yale football's kicker and all-around sweetheart. The stats: Mike Murawczyk, MC '01, 22, history major. Six foot two, (not too tall, not too short), a svelte 195-lbs., heart-melting brown eyes and mahogany hair.

His stats on the field, which have made him one of the best field goal kickers in Yale's history, are almost as impressive. He has been the starting varsity kicker all four years. First team All-New England and First Team All-Ivy for two years in a row, he also holds 11 Yale records, including most field goals in a game, season, and career. With all of these records under his belt, you may think that the words "football player" sum him up—but, oh no, there's so much more.

Mike isn't the typical football player. In fact, he didn't start playing football until junior year of high school when he tried out kicking on a whim. He even admits that his parents bought A Dummie's Guide to Football when they realized he might be playing the sport seriously. Still unconvinced about his "athlete" status, I asked him the $64,000 question: "How often do you go to Toad's?" Sweet Mike rarely goes to Toad's and says he doesn't like "that scene." He also readily admits that he enjoys cooking. Aww.

Mike contests that while football groupies do exist, they've never really gone for the kicker. He said, "People don't have crushes on a kicker. I used to be No. 8 and some people thought I was a quarterback, but I told them that I was a kicker and killed the moment."

This dream's last relationship, which lasted a year and three months, ended over a year ago, and he hasn't had a girlfriend since. So if you're "in good shape, like to laugh, and dress well," Mike may be interested. He's working for a trading company in Stanford, Conn. next year, so he'll just be a short ride away.
