Wild Thang

Sitting in Au Bon Pain in a navy blue sweatshirt and black sweatpants, blond tresses back in a ponytail, Megan MacLeod, MC '01, scoffed at the notion that she is one of the hottest athletes. "There are so many girls here who are so much hotter!" the unassuming soccer star insisted.

One of the top defensive midfielders in the Ivy League, Megan started every game for the last three years for Yale and was a crucial part of the 1998 defense that allowed a school-record 13 goals in 19 games. Megan is pretty smart, too. Earlier this year, she received Academic All-Ivy honors while double-majoring in biology and environmental studies. Her future plans include medical school and a career in research. Gee, she's good-looking, smart, and athletic—life just ain't fair. Unless, of course, you're John Gauger, JE '01, Megan's long-time boyfriend, in which case life is pretty friggin' sweet. I mean, Megan even likes watching SportsCenter.

"Let's say you were single," I said, trying not to drool. "Who's your ideal guy?" "Someone with a sense of humor, a good listener, someone who's trustworthy," she said. "Looks don't matter to me. Besides, most hot guys are undateable. That's why John was such a surprise." When asked if she had any regrets about her time at Yale, she said, laughing, "I wish I had been a bit more...wild. I don't know if I can say that without pissing my boyfriend off."

Alright, then, what is the wildest thing you've ever done? "I was in Jamaica with some of my girlfriends over spring break, and we entered a dance contest," she explained. "We wore 'All-Star '69' t-shirts." To win the $300 prize, the girls pantomimed an impressively acrobatic sexual stunt that I will not describe here. The girls won the contest and the money—not to mention the unconditional adulation of hundreds of guys. I have a feeling Megan's already been doing that for years.
