Elis rally at NCU relays

In only its second meet of the year, the Yale women's track team posted strong results in all races at the Adidas Raleigh Relays at North Carolina University on Fri., Mar. 30 and Sat., Mar. 31.

Laura O'Neill, TC '03, placed second overall in the 10K run with a time of 34:52.12. In the other distance race, the 5K run, Kate O'Neill, TD '03, finished sixth in a field of 110, posting a time of 16:29.73. The O'Neills are currently ranked 11th nationally in their respective events, and both performances are NCAA provisional qualifying times.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Jessica Thomas, MC '02, sprinted to a 16th place finish with a time of 1:03.15. Yale's current triple jump record holder, Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu, TD '01, placed 10th in the long jump and 19th in the triple jump.

Yale's strong showing at the relays should give the team momentum as it begins its run for the Ivy title. "The primary goal will be to win the league championship in May, but this weekend at William & Mary will tell us more," Coach Mark Young, ES '68, said. Standing in their way is Cornell, which placed higher than the Bulldogs at the Long Beach Classic, and traditional rival Harvard, whom Yale will race on Sun., Apr. 22.

In an interesting twist, Yale and Harvard will combine forces prior to their own dual meet to race against a combined Oxford/Cambridge team in a rivalry dating back to the 1890's.
