Elis focus on Ivy title

BY DARCY WIECKS

With the Ivy League championship on the line, the Bulldogs tee off this weekend at Metedeconk National Golf Course in Jackson, N.J. A victory would give Yale not only the league title, but also guarantee the team a chance to compete at the NCAA Eastern Regionals Thurs., May 16 through Sat., May 19. The team has qualified for the Eastern Regionals four of the five past years, and hope to qualify yet again this weekend. "We feel confident going into both tournaments because all five of us are playing well and the team has done well against Ivy opponents this spring," Captain Louis Aurelio, MC '01, said, referring to the Yale Spring Opener where the team placed second only to Army, beating all of the Ivy League competition. Most importantly, the Elis topped Dartmouth, the team that knocked them out of the NCAA Eastern Regionals last year. Yale was led by strong performances from Chris Eckerle, BR '02, and Nate Mickelson, SY '02, who placed second and third overall.

Recently the only problem the Bulldogs have faced has revolved around selecting their top five golfers to represent the team at the league meet. "Since the Spring Invitational, we've had a tough selection process," Mickelson said. "I am confident that we have the strongest side that we could possibly have, at this particular moment."
