Harvard stumbles to open way for Bulldogs

BY AARON LICHTIG

The Elis picked up an important league win against Dartmouth on Wed., Apr. 18. With just nine seconds remaining on the clock and the score knotted at nine, Michael Morris, TD '01, beat the Dartmouth goaltender to hand Bulldogs the win. Despite the last second heroics, the squad was disappointed with its performance, especially early in the game. "We came out slow and flatfooted against Dartmouth," Blake Beachler, BK '02, said. "We should have played at a higher level."

On Sat., Apr. 21, the squad will square off against Harvard in the lacrosse version of The Game. The Crimson have also struggled this year, but still boast a strong, attack-oriented offense led by Doug Logigian '01 and Co-Captain Dana Sprong '01. Though their overall record is not stellar, Harvard did defeat No. 12 Duke 6-5 on Wed., Mar. 31. "Harvard is a team full of talent and I'm looking forward to the match-up against them," Beachler said. Harvard struggled last weekend, falling to No. 2 Princeton, 15-1 and No. 4 UMass 11-5. Goalie Jake McKenna '02 was the star for the Crimson, recording 20 saves against the Minutemen.

Still, the Elis know that the Harvard game is always a difficult one. "It's definitely a team that we can beat, but we've had really close games the past two years," Nick Krohley, PC '02, said. In order to defeat Harvard, the team has been working to improve on the weakness that Dartmouth and Brown were able to expose. "We've been working a lot on our transition game and our play in the crease," Krohley added. The team has also been struggling to keep possession of the ball. "They threw the ball away a lot and so there were a lot of turnovers on both sides of the field," Todd Merchak, BK '02, said. —Aaron Lichtig
