behind the numbers

Women's soccer

After scoring an incredible five goals in the first two games of the season, Ali Cobbett, BR '03, is on pace to score 42 or 43 goals for the year. Cobbett's presence on the field has helped ignite the Bulldogs' offense. In each of the team's victories, Yale came out strong in the first half and attempted more shots on goal.

Against Sacred Heart on Fri., Sept. 7, the Elis scored four goals in the first period; two of those goals came during the first 10 minutes of the game. Yale outshot its opponents 18-7 to secure a 5-0 victory. On Mon., Sept. 9, the team faced Ohio, where it scored two of its three goals in the first half en route to a 3-1 win. Additionally, the Bulldogs outshot their competitors 17-10.

Though past Yale teams have relied upon defense to win, the aggressive offense of the 2001 team hints that Yale may be able to compete with its best total game in years as the season continues.

Football

September 28, 1985: The last time a Yale football game was cancelled. At that time, Hurricane Gloria was responsible for halting the Elis' game against the University of Connecticut. In light of recent tragedies in New York City and Washington, D.C., the Bulldogs' game against Towson, scheduled for Sat., Sept. 15, has been cancelled.

Volleyball

The Elis went 2-1 over the weekend while hosting the Yale Invitational. Wins came over Marist and Hartford; the team's first loss of the season was against Hofstra.

Against Marist, Yale won in three straight sets. In their victory over Hartford, the Bulldogs battled to win 3-2. However, the team dropped three straight to Hofstra (3-0).

Men's soccer

After dropping a tough loss to Harvard (4-2) on Sat., Sept. 8, the Bulldogs hope to come out strong in future matches. Cumulative stats for the season are:
