Trading hits in the NLDS

Dartmouth grad Brad Ausmus '91, a career .400 hitter against Braves ace Greg Maddux, hit a fifth-inning homer off the three-time Cy Young winner in the first game of the National League Division Series. Despite the homerun, Ausmus' Astros fell 7-4 to the Braves.

Not to be outdone, Atlanta supplied some Ivy talent of its own in shortstop and Penn graduate Mark DeRosa '97. The utility infielder entered the game in the ninth inning and promptly singled to center field. DeRosa was ultimately stranded at third base, but by that point, the Braves had built a comfortable lead.

A New Jersey homecoming

Former Princeton star Steve Goodrich '98 signed a contract with the NBA's New Jersey Nets. Good-rich, a center, appeared in 12 games for the Bulls during the 2000-01 season, tallying 1.6 ppg and 1.8 rpg.

Goodrich, the 1998 Ivy Player of the Year, was a three-time All-Ivy selection and led the Tigers to three consecutive league championships.
