Frosh wins tourney

Anna Jepson's, TD '05, most formidable opponent at last weekend's Princeton Invitational was breakfast. A case of food poisoning afflicted the first-year golfer, who nonetheless finished in first place. Her team also earned top honors, edging out Princeton, the defending Ivy League champion, by just four strokes. "I realized how tough we are individually," said Captain Sarah Seo, TD '02, who placed third. "Anna could barely make it around the course and ended up shooting the low for the day. Seeing that made us all a little tougher."

The victory at Princeton caps off a series of prosperous weekends for the Elis, who bested every team at their own invitational tournament on Sun., Sept. 23, and finished seventh the next week at Penn State.

Up next for Yale is the ECAC tournament on Fri., Oct. 19. Princeton will be a dominant presence, but Jordanna Davis, ES '03, also expects Brown to be something of an upstart. "When I was a freshman, they didn't really have golfers on the team—they had athletes from other teams who played golf," Davis said. "But Brown has become a strong program." Plus, she noted, Princeton lost three seniors from last year's top-ranked squad.

Yale, however, has its team intact from last season, and Coach Mary Moan has cobbled together a strong recruiting class that includes Stephanie Wei, TD '05, and Jepson, whom Davis called "a tremendous athlete."
