LETTERS

'Friday night alternatives to the walk of shame,' [YH, 11/30/01] was poorly researched. If the writer had attended the Bach Society concert, she would know that Dwight Hall was packed with a standing-room-only crowd. Just because concert-goers don't get wasted and loud leaving the concert does not mean that "no one seems particularly gung-ho" about it, unless gung-ho is defined as not being able to remember the concert.

Then there was the portion of the article concerning the YSO. The music for the Halloween show does include pop songs, but the majority of the music comes from excerpts from the symphonic repertoire. Has the writer ever thought that perhaps she could enjoy a show that wasn't entirely devoted to pop tunes, and wonder of wonders, did? I would also like to point out that the sentence that read, "The biggest draw of the Halloween concert isn't the orchestra, but the parodic silent movie produced by its members," is extremely ignorant. I would encourage the writer to watch a silent movie without the music and see how much sense it makes, or even a movie like Titanic without its Oscar-winning score.
